Science at Tucson Unified

At TUSD, we approach science learning through inquiry. Students ask questions about the world around them and investigate through science and engineering practices.

In grades K-8, students explore earth and space science, life science, and physical science.

Each investigation begins with a question. A typical question might be, "What are rocks made of?" Students break apart rocks to analyze their components and learn the differences between rocks and minerals.

Other explorations include water resource, the functioning of the human body, ecosystems, solids, liquids, and gases, forces in motion, and the diversity of life.

In high school, the scope of science learning expands into the laboratory. Students investigate biology, earth and space sciences, and physical sciences to prepare for college and career. In addition to foundational courses, a wide range of options are available to our high school students, providing opportunities to study with nationally recognized instructors in biotechnology and other specialty courses.
